Why has China banned Australian coal? | ABC News

Chinese authorities have placed an indefinite ban on Australian coal imports before the introduction of a new strict quota regime.

Prior to the ban, Australian exporters experienced significant delays in the transportation of coal through Dalian ports, the average time to process a load from 25 to 40 days since the beginning of the year.

Coal is Australia's most valuable export product and generates $ 64 billion in revenue. China consumes about a quarter of total shipments.
