Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will begin a major summer review of Manchester United with Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian international had a crimson pbad in early March, scoring six goals in a week, but he played five games without finding the bottom of the net at a time when Solskjaer desperately needed him.

After a record start at his post, Solskjaer presided over a five-game losing streak in seven games. United has crashed out of Europe and lost ground in the Champions League qualifying race.

Lukaku, meanwhile, left behind Marcus Rashford in the Norwegian hierarchy and the Telegraph claims that Solskjaer is not convinced that this 25-year-old has the attributes he wants to shape a new line of anticipation.

The former Everton striker would have sparked interest from Inter, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, as he is ready to leave Old Trafford after just two seasons at the club where he scored 28. Premier League goals on 64 starts.

Solskjaer warned last week that he would be ruthless in the approach of the low season to try to form a team capable of challenging Manchester City and Liverpool for supremacy in the Premier League.

"I have no illusions about the fact that it will not be obvious," said Solskjaer. "It will be difficult, as I said before, it is the survival of the fittest, but also that of the best, and that's how we must be ruthless.

"We need players who can move us forward, which means culture in the locker room.

"What we do every day here to make us stimulating again, because Liverpool and City are two teams too far ahead of the time for what we like."
