Why the Queen found Kate Middleton "unpleasant"

The Queen "disapproved" of Kate Middleton's "frivolous demonstrations of wealth" before marrying Prince William, says a royal biographer.

The author, Katie Nicholls, said the queen had found Kate's lavish lifestyle in London "unpleasant".

The royal author wrote in his biography of 2010 William and Harry: "Yes [Kate] was not with William in Balmoral so the couple skied or spent a holiday in Mustique.

"Kate was there so often that the press nicknamed her" the Queen of Mustique ", a title that previously belonged to Princess Margaret."

According to The Sun, a source reportedly told the royal expert, "Pbading from a five-star beach resort to another is not a prerequisite for a young woman likely to become queen."

The queen was disturbed by Kate's exotic vacation, but also by her notoriety in London clubs, while Britain had entered recession in 2008.

The author wrote: "Britain was now in recession and such frivolous displays of wealth were unpleasant for the queen".

It was reported that Kate Middleton had been "stung by Queen's critics" and although Clarence House advised her not to comment publicly, the current Duchess claimed to work for her parents' company as a photographer.

A black and white photo of Kate appeared on the website, but was taken shortly thereafter.

Nicholls said: "This was considered a step too much and it was removed in a few weeks."

In intervening with some advice, it was claimed that the Queen had led Kate to more appropriate roles.

The biography says: "The queen had quietly suggested to Kate to join a charity and in September she was badociated with Starlight, who works with critically ill and terminally ill children."

Prince William and Kate Middleton met in 2001 in St Andrews and began dating in 2003.

After a brief separation in 2007, while they were skiing at the Swiss resort of Zermatt, the couple got engaged in 2010 and got married the following year.

The couple is now father of five-year-old Prince George, three-year-old Princess Charlotte, and ten-month-old Prince Louis.
