Trent Alexander-Arnold was at the heart of the action during the first half of the inevitable Premier League confrontation in Liverpool against Newcastle.

The England international's corner kick helped Virgil van Dijk score the first goal of the match, but the 20-year-old had the chance to miss a red card after a controversial incident in the 20th minute.

Matt Ritchie's center seemed to have allowed Salomon Rondon to score easily, but Newcastle's striker's efforts were cleared from under the crossbar by Alexander Arnold's elbow.

Fortunately, from Liverpool's point of view, the lost ball fell on Christian Atsu, who plundered his first league goal of the season.

If the former Chelsea striker had not been on the verge of bringing the rebound back home, Alexander Arnold would have been ordered to follow Andre Marriner's order, but as, ultimately, he did not deny a goal opportunity, he escaped a red card and suspended the ruled out of the next season's final against the Wolves.

"Trent Alexander-Arnold is lucky because 1-1 is the best thing that can happen to Liverpool in this situation," said Sky Sports co-commentator Jamie Carragher.

"It's a penalty and a red card."

According to Sky Sports reporter Geoff Shreeves, Newcastle was furious with Marriner's decision and several players and staff clashed with the manager at half-time.

To aggravate the frustration of the locals, Alexander-Arnold produced his second badist of the match just before the half-hour, thus offering the center after which Mohamed Salah has recovered Liverpool to return in the lead.
