A woman who triggered a false alarm in a car about the kidnapping of her children was arrested by Sekondi police.
The false kidnapping alert almost led to the lynching of a 45-year-old man, who later turned out to be the woman's husband.
The incident occurred in Effiakuma, a suburb of Sekondi / Takoradi, on Wednesday morning, after the enraged woman accused the man of abducting his own children.
The man, who had problems with his Nigerian wife, went to his wife's home in Effiakuma to pick up his children who were in his care.
But the wife, whose name was given to Kediya, forcibly joined them in the private, man-made sedan.
The woman, aged 42, began ringing the alarm that children – all women – were being kidnapped.
This caught the attention of motorists and other pedestrians who started pursuing the vehicle.
The suspicion and turmoil of restless residents continued to increase as some of the city's radio stations portrayed the appalling situation as one of the recent kidnappings.
The angry crowd approached the car, broke the windshield and almost lynched the husband without timely intervention from the police.
The police took the man to the Effiakuma police station, while the crowd with his clubs and cudgels was also besieged.
They were then sent to the command of the Sekondi Regional Police, where the woman was accused of sounding the alarm.
