Joe Garner scored the only goal as Wigan ended his first season in the championship with a win over Millwall.
With both camps safe from relegation, the atmosphere at DW Stadium was predictable.
But Garner created the mood with what was supposed to be the only goal of the game when he crashed his left foot off the left foot after Nick Powell's shot was blocked by Millwall goaltender David Martin.
The visitors thought they were level when Ryan Leonard was out of Shaun Williams' corner for the referee to give Wigan a free kick.
And the Lions came closer when Jake Cooper stabbed the ball to allow Powell to free the line.
Lee Gregory then forced Wigan goaltender Christian Walton to make a fine save after the break, but Millwall failed to clear his way to the goalkeeper's goal.
Wigan, whose victories over Leeds and Preston, third in the standings at Easter, pulled them out of danger, dropped the captain for Reece James's day in the finals, with the young loaner from Chelsea having been ovationed by A great season.
Last season's Ligue 1 champions, Paul Cook, finished the season in 18th place, nine points from the relegation zone, with Millwall in 21st, four points better than the relegated third Rotherham.
