The recent integration of Ping from iTunes to the microblogging platform Twtter gave a boost to the social networking service of Apple's music after Facebook's integration to the last minute. in a service that limits messages to 140 characters or less.
Maybe an official iTunes link shortener could help things? MacRumors points out that Apple has owned the iTun.es domain name since December 2006, when it was registered with MarkMonitor, the company's own trademark management company registering Apple's domains.
Of course, Apple bought the domain long before the growing popularity of link shortening services such as bit.ly, so that they obviously covered their bases when they bought iTun.es. However, why leave a good URL like iTun.es disappear when a useful, obvious and easy to implement application is already waiting?
