Serena Williams was fined $ 10,000 (£ 7,988) for damaging one of Wimbledon's courts with her racket.

The incident occurred during a training session prior to this year's tournament at the All England Club.

The seventh Wimbledon champion, 37, participates in her sixth tournament in 2019, but defeated Carla Suarez Navarro on Monday to advance to the quarter-finals.

Italian Fabio Fognini was fined $ 3,000 after stating that Wimbledon should be bombed.

The 32-year-old burst into anger in his native tongue in his third round defeat to Tennys Sandgren on Saturday.

American Williams, 11th seed, has a knee injury this year.

She will face compatriot Alison Riske in the last eight games after defeating world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty.

Williams and his partner Andy Murray are in the second round of the mixed doubles and should meet Fabrice Martin and Raquel Atawo on Tuesday.
