Afolabi Samuel, a pastor of Living Faith Church, aka Winners’ Chapel, was sentenced to 3 years in prison by a Lagos State Special Offenses Court in Ikeja, after being convicted of stole $ 90,000 and 4.5 million naira from registered church administrators.
The accountant and treasurer of the church who was arrested before Judge Mojisola Dada on two counts of conspiracy and theft by the Commission for Economic and Financial Crimes, was accused of conspiring with a Blessing Kolawole, an employee of Covenant University who is currently on the run, to steal and convert money for their personal use, in violation of Articles 278, 285 and 490 of Lagos State Criminal Law No. 11, 2011.
However, after defense attorney Rotimi Ogunwuyi pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, as his client who realized his mistakes and changed his plea from not guilty to guilty is responsible for educating his children and the care of his elderly parents, admitted Judge Dada. sentenced him a fine option of N1m and ordered him to repay the sum of $ 90,000 and N2 358,000 to the church.
