Wishing for an uneventful, fair and credible survey of the NDC

Democratic references to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will deepen today as party delegates go to the polls to successfully elect a flag bearer who will lead the party in the 2020 presidential election.

The polls are historic in that seven pillars of the party participate in the national exercise that takes place in 276 polling stations, including at the party headquarters in Accra.

According to the party constitution, the election of a flag bearer must take place two years before the national general election, when the party is in opposition.

The election of a flag bearer has therefore been delayed by successfully settled lawsuits, paving the way for the exercise today.

The Daily Graphic therefore congratulates the party for its ability to meet the challenges.

We believe that these are some of the indicators of maturity and the high level of internal democratic values. They indicate that no one in the party can dictate the situation and that decisions are made according to defined procedures and by consensus.

All indications are that the preparations will bear fruit, but delegates bear the heavy responsibility of making this very important decision to elect a flag bearer for the party.

While wishing the NDC much success in this exercise, we want to remind party members that it is not only the country that monitors them, but the rest of the world, and therefore they have an obligation to successful primary that strengthen the democratic powers of the party and ensure that it is ready for the 2020 elections.

The NDC has already set the tone by expanding its electoral college, which will reduce the suspicions of collusion and influence that would probably cast doubt on the outcome of the poll.

This will surely give more credibility to the results and the Daily Graphic hopes that the other political parties in the country will also deepen their democratic practices.

Coincidentally, the primary was organized as a result of reports that a shooting had occurred a few days earlier at the party's regional headquarters in Ashanti.

Our recommendation is that the party should not take things for granted, but liaise with the police administration to ensure maximum security, without intimidation, so that delegates can make their choices freely. and fair.

It is heartening that the Police Administration has badured the nation that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure a free and fair election.

But we urge the police to identify hotspots to be more vigilant in such places to prevent any thugs or thugs from disrupting this momentous democratic process.

We also do not know that different candidates may have their own reservations about the process.

But we are asking them to accept the defeat in the interest of the party and to support anyone who will win, so that the party can enter the 2020 general election as a serious candidate.

The Daily Graphic sends its warmest congratulations to the aspirants and wishes the NDC an election without incident, fair and credible, the result of which will be accepted by all the members of the party.
