Professor Emmanuel Kwesi Aning, director of the Faculty of Academic Affairs and Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC) described corruption as a business that binds society to Ghana.
According to him, without corruption, “the edifice that we call the Ghana enterprise will collapse”.
Speaking on Joy News’ Newsfile, monitored by GhanaWeb, Prof Aning said the types of corruption in Ghanaian society are due to its appeal to people’s morals and the way the country’s laws are enforced in the country. hazard.
He said: “Corruption is [a] multi-billion dollar business ”.
Professor Kwesi Aning further indicated that the corruption-related scenarios [have] has not been correctly identified because the subject of corruption is poorly understood.
He explained that as long as corruption is not accepted as a social canker, it will always be seen that the corrupt practices in question are minimal.
“… We don’t look at the networks that underpin it, we don’t look at the levels of collusion, we don’t look at how the rules that should apply first to identify, [and] investigation, and restitutions are well enforced.
“Until we understand this as an acceptability, that corruption is a canker and contributes to our inability to live properly, then the little one [corrupt acts] that people are engaged with, we would say it is petty corruption. [But] corruption is corruption, ”Professor Aning stressed.
For Professor Aning, “corruption cuts across religious beliefs, political affiliation, old school networks, ethnicity,” adding that public perception plays a critical role and until we start to connect the dots and find all the missing links, corrupt practices will continue.
Professor Aning participated in an annual review of events.
