A South African mother arrested for allegedly burning her two children after they ate her chicken meal is expected for Tuesday in Randfontein trial court. The 27-year-old received a 1,000 rand bond earlier this month after spending two days behind bars at Randfontein.

The terrible ordeal that would have been endured by five- and seven-year-olds was discovered when they returned to school after the March break. Their teacher discovered that they both had burns on their hands, which would have been caused by an iron.

The police later discovered that the children also had burns in their thighs. "We discovered that all this was because the kids ate their KFC," Sgt Carmen Hendricks said on Tuesday.

The children had been entrusted to social workers, while their mother was interviewed. It was not clear right away if the court had decided if she could get in touch with the children until her case was finalized.

She faces charges of abuse and aggression in order to cause serious bodily harm.
