Finally, two women to whom a high court of Accra awarded 100,000 GHC and pronounced for their readmission within the National Fire Service of Ghana (GNFS) were handed over to their work and were paid.
The two women, Thelma Hammond and Grace Fosu, were fired in 2013 and 2014, respectively, to become pregnant.
The women's victory comes after a long legal battle with the state to cancel their dismissal because it was contrary to their fundamental rights.
On January 22, 2019, the state, through the intermediary of the Attorney General, made a final setback to the decision of the High Court. The state appeal was dismissed, but the court granted the government a stay of execution.
Today, Daily Graphic has announced that both women would receive their money and that they should return to the service.

Beginning of March 2019, YEN.com.gh carried the story of Grace Fosu, who told CNN about it.
Fosu announced that she was going to give birth in a maternity hospital in Accra when she would have received a call from her employer. The message of the call was simple: it was let go.
She was neither in place nor healthy to commute with her metropolitan firefighter who had called. After hanging up, Fosu gave birth to a healthy little girl, Salamat.
But it is the pain that has consumed Fosu instead of the joy of his new baby girl. She did not expect to be dismissed.

According to the Daily Graphic, a letter from the Fire Chief, Mr. Edwin Blackson, to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) indicated that the two "firefighters" were reinstated in the service immediately ".
The letter, dated March 13, 2019, ordered the two women to report to the Greater Accra Regional Fire Chief for rebadignment.

In the meantime, CHRAJ urged all institutions to review the ruling and revise all regulations and conditions that violate women's right to reproduction and marriage, particularly banks and private sector financial institutions.
