Woody Allen has today committed a $ 68 million lawsuit to the Southern District of New York for a four-frame contract with Amazon. The lawsuit comes as Allen's latest film, "A Rainy Day in New York," was put in limbo, several months after its release.
The film, which includes Selena Gomez, Elle Fanning and Jude Law, has been suspended following the latest controversy surrounding the filmmaker's allegations of badual badault in 1992. A number of movie stars have since their regret to participate in the photo and others have agreed to give their salaries to charities.
"Amazon has tried to excuse its action by referring to a 25-year groundless allegation against Mr. Allen, but this claim was already well known to Amazon (and the public) before it". Amazon does not make four separate agreements with Mr. Allen, "The lawsuit reads," and in any event, it does not provide Amazon with a basis for terminating the contract, "says the lawsuit. "There was simply no legitimate reason for Amazon to reverse its promises."
The Amazon / Allen deal has already resulted in the release of two films – "Wonder Wheel" and "Cafe Society" – and more are in the works. As Variety notes, the initial agreement was greeted with a pessimistic comment from Allen, stating, "As with all initial relationships, there is a lot of hope, mutual affection, and sincere will – lawsuits come later. "
However, the rise of the Me Too movement brought under fire Allen Allen's charges and Amazon took note of the increased scrutiny that resulted.
