Woody Allen sues Amazon for dropping a rainy day in New York

Woody Allen has filed lawsuits against Amazon Studios, accusing him of violating their contract by refusing to distribute his latest film.

Aged 83, he claims more than $ 68 million in damages, alleging that the company has withdrawn without reason from a multi-table contract.

Amazon has released two of Allen's films and has also distributed his television series, Crisis in Six Scenes.

But he dropped his latest film, A Rainy Day in New York.

The BBC contacted Amazon Studios for comments but did not receive an immediate response.

According to a lawsuit filed Thursday in New York, Allen claims that Amazon gave up the deal in June 2018 because of an old accusation that the director allegedly badaulted his adoptive daughter, Dylan Farrow, in 1992.

The lawsuit said that Amazon was aware of an "unfounded" allegation of 25 years when it would have reached an agreement with the director and that she "did not" does not allow Amazon to terminate the contract. "

A rainy day in New York was shot in 2017 with a cast composed of Jude Law, Rebecca Hall, Selena Gomez and Timothy Chalamet.

A number of its members have since distanced themselves from the project. Chalamet announced in 2018 that he would give his salary to a charity.

Last year, Law had told Vanity Fair that it was "a terrible shame" that the film was put on the back burner and that he "would have to think carefully" before he could work again. with Allen.
