This is the second time this year that teachers are forced to write exam questions on charts
The Ghana Education Service has asked heads of state schools in the country to write end-of-session exam questions on Chalkboards.
This is the second time this year that teachers are forced to write exam questions on Chalkboards. In April of this year, in similar circumstances, teachers wrote exam questions on the blackboard as a result of the government's delay in awarding Capitation Grants for the 2018-2019 academic year.
The movement was criticized by some of the public on social media, but the GES said in a statement that teachers are free to repeat this practice.
According to teachers, the situation has slowed school activities. Until recently, questions were printed for all exams, including those being prepared for the final exam.
Until now, students had to pay fees for printing questions, which was good for both teachers and students. But the GES has ordered this year that no fee be levied in the application of the policy of free education at the basic level.
Following this directive, teachers were forced to write the examination of the third semester 2018/19 on blackboards.
The GES declaration also directed teachers and school heads who had taken money from their parents to hold end-of-term exams to make them effective immediately.
Parts of the Ghana Education Service statement were read;
1. No student or parent shall be charged as a fee for the various exams.
2. School leaders are free to write exam questions on the board.
3. Heads of institutions contracted with a consortium of examiners must immediately repeal these contracts.
4. The sums collected from pupils and parents for the writing of the exams for this term must be returned to them immediately. GHG review units across the country must ensure that funds reach their parents and report to district education directors.
5. The examination units of the different districts should monitor the end-of-year examinations and inform the respective education directors.
The Director of Education of the West Municipality has directed that the above information be strictly adhered to. If a schoolmaster acted otherwise, he would be subject to all the rigors of the law.
