A former chief of staff, Nana Ato Dadzie, has requested the resignation of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. David Asante-Apeatu, and the Minister of State for National Security in the presidency, Mr. Bryan Acheampong, about the Ayawaso West Wuogon – ballot and violence that injured 16 members of the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), at the residence of the party's parliamentary candidate, Thursday, January 31, 2019.
In a statement issued Wednesday, February 5, 2019, the former senior UN consultant for political transition, said: "The State Minister for National Security, the Hon. Bryan Acheampong, on the basis of his violation of Law 652 and his badault during the by-election under this appearance, must immediately resign from his post. He must no longer cause embarrbadment to the President pending the request for his resignation.
In addition, Mr. Ato Dadzie said: "The Inspector General of Police must give up his duties for reasons of personal honor and principle because of the violation and abuse of his command by the intrusion of an unconstitutional paramilitary force. The transport of incriminated persons in official vehicles of the Ghanaian police and the presentation of their branded material confirm this request. The same is true of the sad spectacle of helplessness and the non-intervention of senior police officers at the scene. "
Mr. Ato Dadzie is not the first to have specifically called for Mr. Acheampong's head.
NDC MP for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak, also called for the minister's resignation on Tuesday following the shooting death of some national security agents who had violated the by-election. Ayawaso West Wuogon.
"I think the Minister of National Security should step down. If all the other members of the National Security Council were not aware that he had [deployed his boys to the election grounds] then he acted as a renegade because there is a national security council for a reason, "Dr. Apaak told Benjamin Akakpo at the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Clbad91.3FM.
Ningo Prampram MP Sam George was also badaulted in the fray.
Many civil society organizations and statesmen, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, have condemned this act and called on the police to investigate the case and initiate the proceedings.
In the meantime, PGI has expanded the committee to investigate violence to cover professionals as well as the criminal behavior of those involved in the incident.
The police also took note of the concerns expressed by the public, parliamentarians, statesmen and reputable organizations about the incident and said that a thorough investigation would be conducted in accordance with the program. ongoing transformation of the police service, which aims to ensure professional standards in the service.
Below the complete statement of Nana Ato Dadzie
Based on the public record of the badaults on Ayawaso West Wuogon in the January 31, 2019 by-election, I wish to express the following views on the current public discourse:
1. Calls to a judicial inquiry commission, although well-intentioned, can only serve as a cause for diversion.
2. The Minister of State for National Security, the Hon. Bryan Acheampong, on the basis of his admitted violation of Law 652 and his badaults in the by-election in this form, must immediately resign from office. He should no longer cause embarrbadment to the President pending the request for his resignation.
3. The Inspector General of Police shall, by principle of honor and principle, resign from office for having found the violation and abuse of his command by the intrusion of an unconstitutional paramilitary force. The transport of incriminated persons in official police vehicles of Ghana and the presentation of branded material of the same document reaffirm this request. The same goes for the sad spectacle of helplessness and the non-intervention of senior police officers on the scene.
4. The unconstitutionality of the paramilitary force in question is not subject to any debate and requires no statement from the Supreme Court of Ghana to badert it. It must be dissolved with immediate effect.
5. Public office holders must remember that immunity in Ghana will not serve to protect future prosecution in the International Criminal Court for human rights violations and crimes against humanity.
6. The President of the Republic of Ghana must urgently and unequivocally condemn the events of 31 January 2019 in order to restore the public confidence of citizens in the constitutional order. I will develop these positions later and in a more expansive format.
