Johnny Gargano returned to television in the closing angle of the latest episode of NXT. Gargano attacked NXT champion Adam Cole to create a rubber match between the two. Cole had promised to defend his title against a rookie. It was a trap for a gap that led to the return of Gargano.
Elsewhere in the series, Kushida continued his series of dominant victories by pbading over the main talent of training via submission. Apollo Crews appealed to Kushida for an exciting end to the match.
The episode kicked off with a unique match that looked more like a style to RINGS or Pancrase than to the WWE.
Matt Riddle defeated Arturo Ruas
Riddle beat Ruas via the stoppage of the referee. The match started as a shooting. They quickly went to the ground and rushed. Back at their feet, they exchanged strikes. Riddle used a guillotine choke, but Ruas became an armband. Riddle then countered with his own armband.
They clashed again and Ruas got a takedown. After exchanging kicks, Ruas shot for a takedown. Riddle escaped and knocked him down. Ruas responded with his own blow. On his back, Riddle managed to free himself and he threw himself into a knee hit that dropped Ruas. Riddle jumped on him with the ground and the pound until the umpire intervened to ask for the ring.
Killian Dain ran wearing a hoodie to stealthily attack Riddle after the match. Dain mistreated Riddle while he was fighting around the ring and on the ramp. Dain then made a sentinel on the stage for a waterfall.
Making the spot of Taz / Bam Bam Bigelow made famous by ECW, they hit the stage. This did not really have the same sacred factor as when Taz and Bigelow did it in 1998, but this angle was nevertheless effective in overcoming the chaos created by Dain's return.
Street profits made a promo on the latest edition of Street Talk. They put themselves in the place and called on the challengers to intensify if they want "smoke". Reilly and Bobby Fish – who will be the next nominees for the NXT Tag Team titles.

Bronson Reed beat Dexter Lumis to qualify for the small group tournament
Reed pinned Lumis after a big splash on the top rope. It was the last game of the first round. Reed will meet Cameron Grimes in the next round.
In a vignette before the match, Reed talked about him representing the Australian Strong Style. Lumis, for his part, represented a sociopath realizing a scary gadget in which he was hiding threateningly (a bit like he did in TNA in the role of Sam Shaw).
Lumis got hot with Reed while playing puzzle games. Reed made his comeback. Lumis cut him only to miss a sentry. Reed capitalized with a powerslam and a flying body squeezing the upper rope for the fall.
The Forgotten Sons confronted Tyler Breeze during an interview with Cathy Kelley. The Sounds tried to intimidate Breeze, but he made a joke about Jaxson Ryker as Buddy Murphy (who had previously teamed up with Wesley Blake in NXT). Blake said Ryker was something Breeze had never seen before, but Breeze refuted that by saying that he had seen it all.
A recap highlighting Io Shirai as a stub lead to a Shirai announcement against Kacy Catanzaro in the next episode. Next week is Shirai's first game on television since Candice LeRae turned the corner.
Kushida defeated Apollo crews
Kushida submitted Crews with a Sakuraba lock in a nice match. As part of the finish line, they made a Spanish Fly where Kushida blocked an armband when they crashed on the mat. Hot grip: Kushida is a great professional wrestler.
They started the match with a handshake to the code of honor before the start of the fight. They went through interesting sequences and exchanges, then laughed.
After playing cat and mouse, Kushida kicked the heel to knock Crews off the apron. Crews soon responded with a gutbuster. The teams hit a delayed vertical suplex for a count of two, and he then failed Kushida. A splash of Stinger by Crews was followed by a vertical detachment of the stomach belly.
The teams missed a second splash and Kushida hit the forearms and kicked Crews' arm. Kushida laid a Tajiri back elbow that he followed with a cart wheel and a basement dropkick. Kushida hit a reinforced enzuigiri in a corner before coming out of the middle rope with a DDT tornado for a near fall.
Kushida was aiming an arm when Crews cut him off. Kushida is struck by a big boot. Teams capitalized with a German suplex hat trick, then followed with a Shooting Star Press standing for a close fall.
Kushida, who was targeting the arm earlier in the game, came back when Crews went to get a military press. The crew arm gave way and Kushida set up a sharp hurricane. A double failure was the result when Crews hit with an enzuigiri.
The crews got up and mounted the turnbuckles. They traded their strikes – and a Kushida double-heel strike stunned the crews. On them doing a Spanish flight out of the rope, Kushida insisted on applying an armband. Kushida then moved on to the application of a Kimura and committed crews.
Keith Lee made a behind-the-scenes promo where he explained that his tenure at NXT had beginnings and stops. He had been promised the opportunity, but now, others have more chances. He specifically mentioned the priest Damian. This sets up a match for the next episode with Lee facing Priest.
NXT champion Adam Cole headed to the ring for a promo in the ring. He claimed to be a fight champion. To prove that, he had a game tonight with someone he'd presented with a video package.
A flashback showed Johnny Gargano who was returning to the wrestling school where he had trained. Cole recently went to school and did a promotion for student heels. He focused on one particular student – Twan Tucker.
That's what Cole chose to defend his NXT Championship against this show. Tucker was heading to the ring when he received a microphone to say that he was not coming alone.
Gargano suddenly rushed to the stage and pbaded Tucker. Gargano stormed the ring to fight with Cole. They fought around the ring and in the crowd, as Full Sail was the ECW Arena. Officials in striped shirts eventually poured in to separate them. But the fight continued.
Gargano went down the stage and jumped into a flying crossbody. They fought back to the ring, Gargano hitting Cole with a superkick.
Cole then patted and screamed for grace when he found himself trapped in the Gargano Escape. The officials eventually removed Gargano from him. Gargano raised three fingers, signifying a third fight between them, which will be the rubber match in their quarrel.
