Earlier this week on Monday Night Raw, Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Ricochet and Aleister Black were all called for a mini-NXT takeover.
There was a lot of action, but the map for the next WWE Fastlane was still terribly blank.
Last night, at SmackDown Live, our NXT foursome returned and Fastlane finally began to take shape as we continued on the Road to WrestleMania 35. Keep reading to learn four things.
1. Kofi Kingston will face Daniel Bryan in a one-on-one match at Fastlane for the WWE Championship
Here has DSWWE We actively lobbied for YEARS so that the individual stars of The New Day could succeed in their solos.
And since we met face-to-face with a Kofi Kingston pre-ND six years ago, we've always had a thing for the thief of Royal Rumble scenes.
So, we could not be happier at this last turn of events.
Last minute replacement for injured Mustafa Ali (soon healed), Kofi shone in the pre-Elimination Chamber Gauntlet match, although he missed the final spot at Randy Orton.
In the same room, he continued to impress, although again he lost to Daniel Bryan who kept his belt in wood and hemp.
But now he has another shot.
The competitors in the House ended up in the main event of last night. The good players took the win and Kofi secured the pin of the champion Daniel Bryan for the second week in a row.
This prompted Shane McMahon to give the WWE universe what they were asking for: Kofi Kingston vs. Daniel Bryan for the WWE title at Fastlane.
Daniel Bryan is still on track to keep WrestleMania 35 as a champion … but we can dream, is not it?
2. Shane McMahon and The Miz have a rematch against Usos at Fastlane
Automatic rematch has not been around since Vince McMahon turned things around in the WWE at Christmas, but we still seem to have a lot of it.
It's not that we were complaining, because it seems that Shane McMahon & The Miz and The Usos still have some work to do after Jimmy and Jey won the SmackDown team championships this weekend.
There is of course a considerable conflict of interest, Shane McMahon being an active competitor AND a man capable of sanctioning revenge, but to be fair to Shane-O-Mac, the Usos have pushed him enough into the shot.
The besties are therefore fortunate enough to be redeemed and, while we predicted fireworks and recriminations, The Miz is actually excused and contrite after his arrogance cost them the belt.
The date is set for Fastlane, and if the Miz and Shane do not get back the belts, it is surely for their partnership?
Anyway, it will be interesting to see what will happen to both men as they approach WrestleMania 35.
3. Raw AND SmackDown are NXT and the division of the brand begins to fray
When Vince McMahon introduced a group of NXT Superstars in the main roster at the end of the year (Heavy Machinery, Lacey Evans, Nikki Cross, Lars Sullivan and EC3), a brand was not initially awarded.
It was thought that they would settle in Raw or SmackDown after a week or two, but that did not happen.
And after four of NXT's biggest stars appeared on Raw that Monday just disappeared, it was not surprising to see them also appear by SDLive last night.
Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Ricochet and Aleister Black have made their appearance again and once again they have both won considerable victories.
Black has once again won an important head-to-head victory, following his victory over Raw over Elias by the defeat of his former NXT training partner, Andrade.
Ciampa and Gargano continued their DIY reunion tour with a mbadive victory over The Bar. And Ricochet found himself alone last night and defeated Eric Young, a security man.
So you have around TEN NXT or old NXT stars floating between red and blue.
You also had Becky Lynch running for Raw or SmackDown as she pleased (though she was suspended from both).
And Vince McMahon hand-picked Charlotte Flair from SDLive as a challenger for Ronda Rousey's WWE Raw Women's Championship.
Add an invasion or two and the division of the brand seems less strict than it has been since his return.
4. Asuka has big problems with Mandy Rose, who will surely challenge her to Fastlane
If you do not include this royal battle when it was eliminated by Eva Marie (yes, Eva Marie) or matches to several women where someone else ate it. Lapel pin, Asuka has the record for the longest undefeated sequence in the history of WWE.
Straddling her entire career in NXT and her first few months in the main roster, Asuka scored 914 without being subdued or blocked before being defeated by Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania.
In the year since, Tomorrow's Empress has seen many ups and downs, her undisputed climax being her return to the title of champion and her victory in the Three Threats War with Becky Lynch. and Charlotte Flair at TLC 2018..
She ignored the subsequent attentions of the two women and Bex and Flair now seem more obsessed with Ronda Rousey and the other only by the idea of recovering SDLive gold.
So, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Asuka has easy access to WrestleMania.
But complacency is the biggest threat of a champion, and Asuka is repeatedly distracted by First, by Lacey Evans, and then by the shenanigans of Mandy Rose.
Rose took the opportunity to win a famous victory over the champion. Although it was not announced last night, this surely places the ex-wife of Absolution in the first place of the suitor for the crown of Asuka.
And as the defeat of last night resonated in her ears, the champion must take this one very seriously otherwise she could be back after the moment when Mania will show up.
