Last week, the joke New Day was ready for anything to sign the contract for the WWE Championship. Damn, Kofi was even practicing his signature speed on WWE's Instagram. Mr. 24/7 remains ready for not having to prepare for more random obstacles after all.
Well, there was no obstacle on SmackDown Live anymore. Instead, were confronted with a Daniel Bryan who no longer had any defense.
So what did Bryan do? He hid his insecurities and his fear by preaching.
While Kingston was sitting at the ring table and the crowd was celebrating with a dance of Xavier Woods and Big E in his corner, Michael Cole tried to talk to them and stage. Bryan cut and quickly paused, letting the crowd have their moment – leaving Kofi to have one's moment. And then he embarked on a sermon of life lessons that was so wise and so important that the crowd basically decided not to listen to it anymore. Instead, they sang for Kofi Kingston in different ways, after E and Woods encouraged them.
It was great! Bryan insulted Kingston with these life lessons by telling the crowd not to look like Kofi. To avoid becoming a spectator in their own lives, to reject complacency and to understand when a mania is simply a mania.
Then, Bryan returned the tables to give some advice to Kofi. He urged Kofi to forget the fans and cited his own experiences as an example. Bryan called the crowd "parasites". They responded by calling Bryan an badhole.
That was enough for Kofi, however. He took the contract, got up and told Bryan to shut up and receive his own education. Bryan thinks he's figured it out, but Kofi wants to put things straight: their situation as a fan favorite is not the same. For Bryan, he became WWE Champion in two years. For Kofi? It took 11 to get a WWE title meet.
That's why Bryan is scared. Bryan knows that Kofi is ready and he knows what this wave of momentum helped by fans can do. He knows what comes next.
Perfection. I have nothing else to add but "a nice Týr shirt, Rowan!"
Let's fight, baby.
Shane McMahon is killing him
I had doubts, man. When he turned on his heels, I had doubts that he could offer something original to the product. But the way he acted – so sadistic, unnecessarily cruel and captivating – was a tremendous turning point for everything that happens with SmackDown Live. On this show, he put Miz in a three-on-one match against Sanity, dubbed his father "Potato Face," and turned the match into Falls Count Anywhere on a whim.
He is so different from his father as a heel and I really like him. Vince is pompous and cartoony. Shane almost makes me want to ask myself if he even has a moral compbad.
The Miz has struggled through all this, however. He fought with Sanity to the parking lot and smashed Eric Young's head with an equipment cart. While he was pulling the pin and getting up, the camera cut the camera off to Shane who was smiling at the back of a vehicle, indifferent as he pulled up the windowpane and leaving.
It is not bad at all. I could get behind Shane, becoming more and more diabolical and ridiculous with his theatricality. Plus, I really like Sanity to receive Falls Count Anywhere as a stip. Can we make it their thing? Shane offers them this stipulation in every game to do his dirty work? Just a thought.
The rest
The Kevin Owens Show is the best talk show in the WWE – It's not even close, either. Owens is fantastic. He had invited AJ Style and Randy Orton to discuss their problems and once the insults had begun, Owens got up from his seat and ran to the back safety.
Orton is teased of Styles for the Angle fight and claimed that he would have lost. Styles responded by calling Orton for failing drug testing and having only one gesture. They fought and of course, it ended with a movement of Orton: an RKO.
Usos, Ricochet and Aleister Black def. The bar, Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev. Also, Alexa Bliss is a heel again, I guess? – It's a good girl on Raw, so why is SHE who came to do it and stick it to the Usos for their actions last week? It seemed like a very good time for Vince McMahon to be petty. Whatever the case may be, Usos finally have a date for WrestleMania.
IIconics makes a promo – I liked what the IIconics were selling here. Essentially, they are annoying to be embarrbaded by a foul and to like their chances of winning at WrestleMania. Insert IIconics pose here.
Becky Lynch in one cut too – Unfortunately, I have to say the opposite about the Lynch promo. They showed a rough summary of the fight to shoot, and then Lynch summed it up. again in his promo.
I think I'm a little fed up with recaps, man. Everything is recapitulative. And yes, I know that it is a recap, agree ?! But I do not need a summary of the video recap for my recap, do you feel me ?!
Whatever it is, she explained how historic it is and that it seemed like everything had been aligned for a year so that Charlotte and Rousey would fight yadda yadda.
A match tag 18 people is actually quite fun – With so many people involved, the game is essentially people who perform signature moves and deliver all their main content – and that's perfect! Eventually, this thing broke down in your typical "I'm going to throw everyone over the top rope!" The most interesting parts for me were to see Mandy Rose and Shelton Benjamin at the top of the podium, Saxton's wonderfully sarcastic sarcasm when Graves had the taste of Lacey Evans, Nikki Cross and Asuka.
Samoa Joe def. Ali – A funny little game, but all I can focus on is how strange it is that Mustafa was stripped of Ali's name and how badly he was hurt and is now in ATGMBR. I hope he wins it.
So what do you think, Cageside? We are finally at WrestleMania. I like a lot of things that SmackDown did for the Mania version, but the Usos problem remains bad with me. As the fate of Asuka, the role of Ali and the state of the female division of SmackDown … I guess it's inevitable, no matter the length of WrestleMania.
