Xi Urges Global Political Parties To Stand Up For Multilateralism; Cooperation | Politics

Chinese President Xi Jinping urged political parties around the world to pursue development and champion multilateralism and cooperation to address the challenges facing humanity.

President Xi, who is also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said this during a virtual summit with the leaders of more than 500 political parties around the world.

The theme of the summit was: “For the well-being of the people: the responsibility of political parties”.

President Xi said it is imperative to address global challenges as wars and conflicts persist in parts of the world, as hunger and disease prevail, with misunderstandings and opposition deepening.

“No country can stay away from global challenges, and cooperation is the only choice,” he said.

Political parties should therefore embrace the idea of a global community of destiny.

“Seen from the point of view of ‘my own country first’, the world is a cramped and overcrowded place perpetuated by fierce competition,” said President Xi.

“Seen from the perspective of a ‘global community with a shared future’, the world is a vast and vast place full of opportunities for cooperation.

“On the road to the well-being of all mankind, no country or nation should be left behind.”

He noted that all countries and nations were equally entitled to development and opportunities rather than an exclusive privilege of the few.

Political parties must therefore face the problem of the development gap and pay more attention to the least developed countries and regions.

They should also jointly oppose the practice of seeking technological blockade and division as well as decoupling.

“We must enable all countries to intensify their development cooperation and ensure that the fruits of development are shared by all,” said President Xi.

He reiterated that any political manipulation with the aim of sabotaging the development of other countries and undermining the livelihoods of other peoples would receive little support and prove futile.

“We must oppose the practice of unilateralism disguised as multilateralism and say no to hegemony and the politics of power,” President Xi said.

“International rules should be accepted by all countries, not a few people. Cooperation between countries should be aimed at serving all of humanity instead of seeking hegemony through group politics.”

He said China will never seek hegemony, expansion or sphere of influence, “adding that” China will always be a member of the developing world. “

President Xi said the CCP is ready to make further contributions to improve human well-being.

China has lifted 98.99 million rural people out of poverty since 2012 and has reached the goal of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development 10 years ahead of schedule.

Speaking of China’s success in reducing poverty, President Xi said the CCP is willing to bring more Chinese solutions and Chinese strength to the process of reducing global poverty.

China will spare no effort to support international cooperation against COVID-19, he pledged.

It would also make unremitting efforts to keep its promise to achieve peak and carbon neutrality.
