"Who am I? Someone who is afraid of letting go, uh / You decide, if you ever let me know (yes) / Suicide, if you ever try to let go / I'm sad and depressed" he rhymes. "I'm lost so I'm found but / it's a love to be tortured / I love when you're around / But I hate bading when you leave."
The single would continue to appear on X ? album, which was released two weeks later. The album debuted at number 1 of the Billboard 200 and the song reached the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100.
XXL spoke with John Cunningham last April on the implementation of the project. He spoke fondly of "Sad!" "I think when we did this song, we both knew it was really good – or at least we thought it was really good," he said. "All you can do is go over your instincts and hope that other people like him." But he had watched the song in a few YouTube videos before it was released. The songs were different from the ones we had seen before so we knew people would like it, but we did not know it would happen at # 7 [on the Billboard Hot 100 chart]. This shit is crazy. "
