Yaa Naa Abukari 776 Ya-Na Abukari Mahama

His royal majesty, Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II, King of Dagbon, after a closed meeting with Saboba Na, Uchabobor Bowan, John Masteer Sakojim IV, Supreme Leader of Konkomba and renowned pastor Cheriponi, Ndakar Jaminja, Supreme Leader of the People . Chokosis, both members of Dagbon's traditional council and Saboba and Cheriponi district chiefs, called for a ceasefire in Cheriponi.

According to the secretary of Dagbon's overlord, Abdul-Rahaman Mohammed, his royal majesty reprimanded the chiefs and district chiefs of the areas affected by the "war" in order to guarantee, as soon as possible, that peace and calm returned their respective jurisdictions.

The Ya-Na stressed the need for both ethnic groups to show restraint in the ongoing ethnic conflict between Anufo (Chakosi) and Konkomba.

The east of Dagbon is known by the rest of the country as an area of tribal conflict. However, with his accession to the throne of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abukari II seeks to make the region a place of peace.

He has therefore instructed the chiefs and district chiefs of the recruiting zone to ensure and promote peace, a tool that, in his view, will spur the development and growth of the region.

His Royal Highness stated that it was impossible for anyone to demand or deserve any development when peace is not a trademark.

Economic activities were interrupted with more than 2,000 women and children fleeing the affected area to protect themselves in neighboring Togo.

However, Ya-Na Mahama II called on the leaders of Konkomba and Chokosis in the country and elsewhere to help the leaders of the conflict zone to stem the violence about to begin.

He also called on the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, and her government to closely monitor the security situation in the region to ensure normality in the region.

Three people died and eight others were arrested in connection with the escalation of violence.

About 22 communities were burned to the ground as fighting between Konkombas and Chokosis resumed in the Chereponi district of the Northeast region.
