Yagbonwura Nana Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boru-Essa II welcoming President Akufo-Addo

The suzerain of Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa Sulemana Jakpa I, congratulated President Akufo-Addo and his government for delineating the Savannah region of the Northern region.

Yagbonwura, in a speech read on his behalf by Abutu Kapori, clerk of Gonja's traditional council and secretary of the overlord, said that the dream has now become reality.

He expressed gratitude to the president for including Gonja in the new region.

The Electoral Commission (EC) is to hold a referendum on 27 December 2018 to create the proposed new regions.

"The coming into force of the Savannah area would depend on us. We all fought hard and we prayed earnestly for this dream to come true. The time has come to show how important this dream is to us. I ask you all to announce your figures on December 27 in order to vote mbadively in the referendum for the realization of this dream, "said Yangonwura.

According to Yagbonwura, previous governments have been petitioning over the years to part with a new region in the North region, but none of them has responded to the demand.

"So it's refreshing to see during my lifetime that a president and a government understood that it was wise to create a new region, the Savannah region," added Yagbonwura.

The suzerain of Gonja congratulated the government for having allocated funds in the 2019 budget for the construction of dams in Gonja.

He said that the Akufo-Addo administration was committed to the well-being of Ghanaians.

Yagbonwura said all the policies implemented by the NPP government were human-centered and had to be supported by all Ghanaians.

Yagbonwura also urged all the people of Gonjaland to defend peace and development.
