Joseph Yammin
Joseph Yammin said he was disappointed with the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for issuing a disclaimer against some of the claims he allegedly made, without giving him the Opportunity to respond before publicizing the publication.
On Wednesday, the party broke away from a statement by its former regional secretary of Ashanti that the party would not dissolve its militias.
Yammin, who has been named the chief financier of the NDC's Hawks militia, is quoted as saying that "the NDC will not dissolve the Hawks today, tomorrow or ever," despite the seemingly unanimous appeals of all Ghanaians, including the President Akufo Addo for the NDC and the NPP to dissolve their forces of self-defense.
The Democratic National Congress (NDC), in a warning signed by its secretary general, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, said that Mr. Yammin's comment does not represent the views and position of the party.
"The party has a firm stance on this issue and has since invited Mr. Joseph Yammin to clarify the report," the statement said.
"The NDC Executive Committee wishes to state unequivocally that the above statement in no way represents the views and / or position of the party. The party wishes to reiterate its unwavering commitment to the process of dissolution of all groups of political militia or militia in the country.
"Our position on this issue is well known and has been extensively discussed in the recent correspondence of our national President, Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, with the President of the Republic of Ghana. As a law-abiding and peace loving party, we will continue to support and participate in any effort to end the culture of political violence.
"The party has a firm stance on this issue and has since invited Mr. Joseph Yammin to clarify the report," the statement said.
But in a radio interview followed by MyNewsGh.com on Wednesday in Kumasi, Mr. Yammin said he was surprised that party leaders, despite all their political experience, did not consult him for the veracity of the case before publishing a disclaimer.
He stated that he found no reason to appear before the party because he felt that he had already tried it without resorting to the full details of the publication.
He denied, however, that he had ever said such things, but reiterated his commitment to the Hawks group as long as NPP-affiliated groups such as the Delta Forces and the Invincible Forces would remain.
