The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) reacted to reports circulating that a deputy director of the agency had beaten his girlfriend to death.
A statement released by YEA General Affairs Director Kwasi Afriyie on Thursday, March 11, 2021, said the details provided in the reports are “not entirely the case.”
Clarifying the issues, the statement noted, “First, the Agency does not have an administrative post like a ‘deputy director’ at the district level, so there is no such post.
“Second, the suspect Philip Caesar Kumah as a staff member contracted to assist with our monitoring and evaluation activities in Akatsi South District (not North Akatsi).
“Third, his contract has expired and is being reviewed and renewed.”
The statement also said that “management has approached the Volta Regional Director of the Agency, who is in the process of obtaining detailed information and facts on the matter, to inform future actions.
“We would like to state that, the case is now a criminal case involving the suspect (in private) and the Ghana Police Department. The Agency will therefore urge everyone to let the law take its course ”.
The YEA also condemned the act of violence perpetrated by the suspect, Philip Caesar Kumah and all forms of violence especially against women, adding that, it does not condone such acts.
“However, we would like to categorically state that as an agency advocating for gender-neutral youth development and empowerment, we vehemently dislike any act of violence, abuse and / or attacks against anything. member of social development, especially women.
“The Agency does not tolerate dishonest activities and misconduct on the part of sny stff at all levels, from districts to headquarters. This has been clearly communicated to all our employees through our code of conduct and work ethics manual and the numerous training sessions organized for our employees at very regular periods ”.
“Management will duly follow this step, as does the Ghana Police Service, and subsequently make recommendations which will be followed up by the CEO,” the statement added.
