The Yendi Youth Network, funded by OXFAM in Ghana and receiving technical support, facilitated by Youth Empowerment for Life (YEfL), organized an educational forum on the decreasing level of education in Yendi Municipality. , in the North region.

The forum held on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at the Yendi Community Center is part of a series of events organized by the Yendi Youth Network in various Yendi-based development sectors.

The Forum brought together stakeholders and stakeholders from the education sector of the Yendi Municipality, including: school heads, teachers, students and representatives of the municipal education bureau.

The Forum has become necessary due to the poor performance of students in the Basic Education Certification Exam (BECE) of the Yendi Municipality in the Northern Region. The forum provided an opportunity for speakers and participants to explore ways to improve student performance at the grbadroots level.

According to statistics, between 2015 and 2017, Yendi has performed poorly in BECE. Of the 6,183 candidates who sat on the BECE for the period from 2015 to 2017; only 2,341 students had the required total of 6 to 30 years and 3,842 had a total of 31 years and over.

This calls for strict measures to address the sad and worrying situation faced by the performance of BECE candidates in the Yendi municipality.

The president of this occasion, Mr. Abdul-Rahaman, who also acted as head teacher at the SDA primary school, blamed parents for the poor performance of elementary students.

He says parents, despite the efforts of school authorities, are fleeing their responsibilities, which is one of the factors behind the poor performance of recent years, and employ parents and guardians to fulfill their responsibilities in order to motivate students for the basic level.

Mr. Amin Abubakari, Deputy Director of Supervision at GES, also criticized some circuit supervisors for monitoring the performance of the schools.

It ensures that proper follow-up and supervision would be ensured during the next school year, when the school will resume.

He urged students to focus on their books to excel in their exams, climb higher and become responsible people in the future.

Ms. Sophia Danso, a staff member of Yendi Girls Junior High School, asked parents to send their children to school and give them the attention they need to excel girls.

Parents and guardians also encourage teachers to perform their duties professionally, as planned, to provide their pupils with adequate education that will greatly contribute to improving the drop in the level of education in the municipality. Yendi, especially at the elementary level.

They also urged the Ghana Education Service to work with the Assembly to adopt education regulations to combat youth discipline.
