Dagbon king makers led by Kuga Naa Adam Abdulai confirmed Yo-Na Abubakari Mahama, as a new Ya-Naa-Elect for the traditional region.
Yoo Naa Abubakari Mahama, who is the supreme leader of Savelugu, was chosen after the success of the last funerary rites of the late Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II.
An extended chieftaincy contestation between Abudus and Andanis following the murder of Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II in March 2002, left the skin vacant for 17 years.
But after the successful funeral rites, a new Ya-Naa was finally selected.
Kuga Naa confirmed the appointment to Joy News.
"We have just completed the funeral rites of Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani and, as is our custom, when we end the funeral of the Ya-Naa, it is that night that a new Ya-Naa takes over … and by God Gracewe selected Savelugu Naa and the new Ya-Naa. "
Kuga-Naa congratulated the chiefs and inhabitants of Dagbon, the government and all those who participated in the conduct of the funerary rites.
The Asanatehene, Otunfuo Osei Tutu II, announced the roadmap for peace in the traditional Dagbon region last year.
The process began when the Abudu organized the first funeral of the late Ya-Naa Mahamudu Abdulai. The Andanis followed after a week with one for Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani.
Asantehene led the distinguished leaders who drew a roadmap for peace in Dagbon
After the organization of these two funeralthe parties involved had to meet, choose and install a new Ya-Naa for the inhabitants of Dagbon.
All this appeared in the roadmap presented Wednesday by the three eminent leaders to the president, Nana Akufo-Addo, after more than a decade of mediation between the Abudus and the Andanis.
President Akufo-Addo, under whose government this important milestone has been crossed, has already been described by Otumfuo Osei Tutu as very lucky, the three previous governments having tried unsuccessfully to restore peace to Dagbon.
