Bawku Central lawmaker Mahama Ayariga says gay people need to recognize that they have no rights in Ghana.
According to him, people who admit to being homosexual in the country must be identified and be prosecuted.
“They are not allowed to practice homosexuality or lesbianism, so they cannot say that their rights have been violated. You are not allowed to be gay or lesbian in Ghana. But I’m saying anyone can argue that we give them that right.
“So now we should find whoever says they are participating in the activities and start punishing the person for who they claim to be,” Ayariga told Serwaa Amihere on GHOne TV on Tuesday.
Conversation and anger at LGBT practices was renewed in Ghana following a fundraiser attended by several diplomats, including the Australian High Commissioner who pledged to support the group.
The EU office in Ghana has declared its support for the group.
Meanwhile, former Deputy Information Minister Pius Hadzide said President Akufo-Addo told him he would never legalize homosexuality.
“We are a people of culture governed by rules and regulations. Whatever decision we take, it must be in accordance with our culture and our laws… I can confirm that the President has indicated that Ghana is not ready to legalize LGBTQI in the current context ”.
