It may soon be possible to incorporate licensed music into your Snapchat publications. Snap, the company behind the ephemeral e-mail application, would be in discussion with some of the biggest music labels in order to get a license for their music so that users can get them started. integrate in their messages. Instagram has already concluded a similar agreement with the labels, which allows users to embed music in their Instagram stories.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Snap is in talks with Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group to license their songs to its users. Once the transaction is complete, Snapchat users will be able to use these tracks as background music for their posts.

Such offers are not new. In 2018, Facebook signed a license agreement with three major record companies, which allowed users of all its platforms to add licensed music to their videos. The agreement covered Facebook, Instagram, Facebook Messenger and Oculus.

It is therefore logical that Snap seeks to reach a similar agreement with the labels, as this would allow the company to maintain the competitiveness of its application against Facebook and Instagram. For now, it's unclear how advanced the discussions are and when users can expect licensed music to be available in Snapchat.
