The new Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman of Navrongo’s central constituency, Anthony Kofi Mensah, said the party could have retained the parliamentary seat in the general election if party members had worked harder in unison.
He said the party would have improved its fortunes in the presidential and parliamentary slots if supporters had put in the exact energy they used to hastily submit their names for the post of municipal director general (MCE).
Information is widespread in Navrongo township that 16 people are seriously lobbying to succeed outgoing MCE William Aduum.
As President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo enters his second term, the replacement of some general managers of metropolitan, municipal and district regions is a key action he would take.
In the central Navrongo constituency, it is assumed that 16 people have so far submitted names with the hope of leading the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly for the next 4 years.
It is not known who these people are, but deep sources tell GhanaWeb correspondent Senyalah Castro that the list is made up of some constituency leaders and loyal party members from the region.
Reacting to speculation on his Facebook, the young president who still can’t figure out how the party lost the seat, subtly said some of them may not deserve the position because they haven’t campaigned for the party.
He said all would have been fine with the party at the constituency level when it comes to the elections if the 16 people had refrained from giving an apology during the campaign.
He continued in the post that some party members (among the 16 hopefuls) continued to give excuses when they were most needed to hit the ground for campaigns.
He wrote: “16 for 1 MCE seat, if all the efforts of those 16 were put in, then NPP would have won the seat.” During working time you hear “I’m sick, I’m not feeling too well”, but you hear “here I am”.
“By the way, good luck everyone.”
