Spotify has recently updated its terms of use policy to specifically target those who use ad blockers. In a statement for DigiDay, Spotify confirmed to have "Multiple detection measures in place monitoring consumption on the service to detect, investigate and process artificial manipulation of continuous activity. "
Spotify accounts marked with ad blockers may be disabled after March 1, when the new rules announced earlier this week will take effect. The new rules do not target Spotify Premium accounts because the service only shows ads for free subscribers.
Unfortunately, more than 2 million users (2% of free subscribers at Spotify) were blocking ads with apps and modified accounts, reports The Verge.
Spotify's new Terms of Use Policy has been updated this week with a new rule prohibiting ad blockers or any other method of blocking ads.
If you are part of the 2 million users of ad blockers, your account will not be disabled until next month, but you should seriously consider switching to Premium if you do not want to show ads in Spotify .
