YouTube TV and NBCUniversal reach distribution deal, ending threat of blackout

Football fans rejoice – YouTube TV has struck a deal that will keep “Sunday Night Football” and other NBCUniversal content on air.

In an update published on his blog On Saturday, YouTube TV announced that it has reached an agreement with NBCUniversal to continue to broadcast NBC and its full line of cable networks, including Bravo, E! and USA Network, among others.

In a blog post earlier this week, YouTube TV said it has yet to renew an agreement with NBCUniversal to transport their networks to their platform. If the deal is not renewed by Thursday, September 30, YouTube TV has said it should remove those channels from their programming. In return, YouTube TV users would have seen their subscription cut by $ 10, until they found the NBCUniversal content.

“We are delighted to have entered into an agreement with YouTube TV and can continue to offer our full portfolio of networks, without interruption,” an NBCU spokesperson told Deadline. “YouTube is a valuable partner and we never want to get our fans involved in a dispute, but we felt obligated to let them know what was at stake.”

However, this never happened. On Thursday, the two companies said they had entered into a short extension, which allowed YouTube TV to continue broadcasting the channels. YouTube TV said on Saturday that it had a more permanent deal with NBCUniversal, but it did not say how long the deal with NBCUniversal was signed for. YouTube TV said subscribers would not see an increase in their bill. It’s also unclear whether NBCUniversal Peacock’s streaming service will be included in YouTube TV subscriptions.
