On Friday March 12, 2021, the Vocational Training Center for Enterprises and Households (BDOTC) graduated more than three hundred (300) women from various disciplines including: sewing, pastry making, management, food and beverages , cooking, beauty culture, event decoration, Braiding and weaving and housekeeping.
According to the history of the institution, the BDOTC is one of the training arms of the Ministry of Youth and Sports under the Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The institution offers specialized training to disadvantaged young people, especially girls and women, in order to acquire employable and self-reliant skills.
In her opening remarks, Minister of Gender, Children and Welfare, Williametta E. Saydee-Tarr, reminded graduates that technical and vocational education and training has been adopted worldwide as that clearly defined professional roles in the company and a well structured career path.
“The knowledge you gained throughout your studies at this institution is not only a demonstration of your hard work and dedication, it is a testament to the passion you have in serving your country in different areas of service delivery, ”Minister Tarr told graduates. .
The keynote speaker encouraged the graduates to apply the skills learned to further improve development not only in Liberia but in the world at large.
“As I walk through your unique group, I see the ambitious faces of several young leaders who will inspire change in our country over the years to come. I congratulate you for making the logical and rational choice to forgo other commitments to come and invest the time you devote to acquiring knowledge which we all believe will be beneficial for you, your families and society. global, ”said Minister Saydee-Tarr.
She pointed out that life itself comes with endless complexities and complications, but staying focused will obviously lead to overcoming adversities even with limited resources.
“Throughout your study here over the past few months, I am sure there have been difficulties in providing all the materials needed to facilitate your learning. Despite all the obstacles, you have been focused and I must tell you that you have a government committed to the total transformation and improvement of the education sector ”, declared the Minister.
“The first pillar of the pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD) has to do with POWER TO THE PEOPLE. This encompasses providing quality education to all of our citizens. As a government, we have proven our commitment by declaring free higher education for all public schools.

“I assure you that all the interventions we have made as a government will prove incapable of making you overcome your adversities if you are not focused. As you leave this room today, Liberia, your families and other young people will be. You have transformed yourself into natural mentors and you must be prepared to take on the responsibility that comes with mentoring others, ”encouraged the keynote speaker.
Minister Saydee-Tarr concluded by thanking the management team of the Ministry of Youth and Sports for insisting on the maintenance of the center and ensuring that all its different programs remain operational.
