United States Men’s National Team goaltender Zack Steffen has tested positive for COVID-19 and will not travel to Honduras for the team’s World Cup qualifier on Wednesday in San Pedro Sula, announced US Soccer on Sunday.

The announcement comes hours before the United States faces Canada at Nissan Stadium in Nashville in the second of three games in the qualifying window.

Steffen had previously been ruled out of the game against Canada due to back spasms, which prevented the Manchester City man from moving to Thursday’s goalless draw in El Salvador.

A USMNT spokesperson added that Steffen’s positive test came after the game in El Salvador. In addition, another member of the American delegation tested positive.

Steffen has been replaced in the United States by New York City FC goalkeeper Sean Johnson.

Steffen is the second American star to have recently tested positive for COVID-19. Christian Pulisic also tested positive on August 18, forcing him to quarantine himself for 10 days from his club, Chelsea, before heading to the United States for qualifying matches.
