The Zambian authorities banned an energy drink after discovering that it contained an ingredient used in the anti-impotence drug Viagra.

At the end of last year, a Ugandan consumer complained of an extended erection after drinking a Power Natural High Energy Drink Drink SX, made in Zambia.

Ugandan health authorities investigated and found that it contained Sildenafil Citrata – the active ingredient in Viagra.

Zambia said it would investigate as well.

"The results from Zimbabwe and South Africa correlate with those from the Food and Drug Laboratory that indicate a positive presence of sildenafil citrate," a Reuters quoted a Zambian authorities statement as saying.

The manufacturer, Revin Zambia, has not commented.

In January, the company's general manager, Vikas Kapoor, told the BBC's Newsday program that, to his knowledge, the energy drink contains no medicine.
