Logo NADMO NADMO warned residents against building waterways

The residents of Zenu, Kpong Katamanso Municipality, were asked to prepare for the flooding challenges early in the rains.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mutawakilu Bashiru, director of the Kpone Katamanso National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), said some residents have challenged every chance of build on waterways, preventing water from flowing freely when it rains.

Mr. Bachiru, who also serves as a member of the Assembly in the Akansa constituency, explained that all efforts to prevent residents from building on the waterways had not successful.

According to him, some residents had bought plots in dam sites, a situation that he said could cause disaster in the event of a shower.

NADMO's municipal official said the situation was affecting other residents, with sudden floods in their rooms every time it rained because the natural courts had been blocked.

He advised residents and potential developers to acquire building permits from the Municipal Assembly prior to construction.

He advised people occupying buildings located in waterways to move "in order to avoid any additional danger to human lives and property".

Some of the residents who spoke to the GNA on condition of anonymity urged the authorities not to demolish their homes.

When the GNA left the site, officials from Kpone Katamanso 's municipal engineering department met with stakeholders to decide the line of action to follow.
