Israeli carrier ZIM has struck a deal worth more than $ 1 billion with Seaspan, one of the world’s largest container charterers, for a series of LNG-fueled ships.

The ten 15,000 teu vessels, which will be built at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea, will be deployed to ZIM’s Asia-US East Coast trade upon delivery.

Eli Glickman, President and CEO of ZIM, said, “This is a significant deal for ZIM, valued at over $ 1 billion.”

Bing Chen, President, President and CEO of Seaspan, added, “We are very pleased to partner with ZIM to facilitate our customer’s cutting edge environmental initiative. This transaction signifies both ZIM and Seaspan’s commitment to ESG principles, reduction of carbon emissions and a desire to contribute to a greener business community in the future.
