A former ZANU PF legislator for Mutasa North, the Hon. Luke Phibion Masamvu died yesterday January 31 in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, following complications from the coronavirus.
The former parliamentarian, who was a well-known businessman in Manicaland province, was only 63 years old and left behind a total of 12 women and 79 children.
Brother of the former lawmaker and family spokesperson, Mr John Masamvu said mourners were gathered at the family’s Airedale farm along the Rusape-Nyanga road to receive commiserations.
“It is a very sad day for the whole Masamvu family. We have lost a great father who also served his country in Parliament, ”said John, addressing the gathered mourners.
Hours after news of the death went viral on news platforms, tributes began pouring in from across the poverty-stricken country
Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, Arts and Recreation, the Hon. Tinoda Machakaire described Luke Masamvu’s death as a huge loss.
He said; “I was really saddened to learn of the untimely death of former MP and businessman Cde LP Masamvu,”
Hon. Luke Masamvu’s close friend, Mr. Misheck Mugadza, said: “We have lost an accomplished businessman, father and personal mentor.
He lost his parliamentary seat after falling by the wayside in the 2018 ZANU PF primary elections.
