Zimbabwe’s ruling party has denied reports that it intends to ban women and girls from wearing mini skirts and pants in public places.
In a statement, Zanu-PF national spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo called the information fake news.
This followed reports that the party was planning to introduce legislation that would ban women aged 16 and over from wearing pants and mini skirts.
“Zanu-PF is distancing itself from spreading false information that the party is pushing for the dismantling of miniskirts and pants,” the statement said.
The party accused an NGO allied with the opposition MDC party of spreading the rumors.
Mr Moyo said Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle was waged by both men and women (through the Women’s League) and that the party had made “significant progress” in advancing women’s rights in the country. several ways.
“So it is ludicrous that a giant mass party formed and existing on the shoulders of an empowered Women’s League can be attributed such trivialities over clothing,” he said.
