Zinedine Zidane set out to make Barcelona forget his lack of La Liga titles compared to Real Madrid.
The Barca has 12 points ahead in the standings and will win the championship Wednesday night if Atletico Madrid loses to Valencia.
That would mark their 26th title of Spain's top flight, more than anyone in the country, with the exception of Zidane's Real Madrid, who claimed 33, but only two in the last 11 years .
Zidane won a league title as a player with Madrid and one as manager, as well as three Champions League trophies before retiring at the end of last season.
Back at the club after a disappointing season in which Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari were sacked, the Frenchman said the league will still be the bread of Real butter because they have more titles than their rival Barca.
"La Liga is very important, it's the daily goal," he told reporters.
"This will be our first goal for next season.
"We have 33 titles in Liga, how many are in Barcelona, it's true that they've done well in recent years, and we have to recognize them, but in our history there's a lot more of titles.
"For me, it's the most important title for which to fight."
