Zinedine Zidane refused to give Gareth Bale any confidence in his future. Manchester United and Chelsea were both interested in a summer move for the Welsh international.

Basel is struggling to find its best form this season and many believe that the return of the French tactician to Santiago Bernabeu a few weeks ago was the beginning of the end for the winner of the Champions League four times.

True leaders would be willing to take advantage of this 29-year-old – who did not always see the eyes in the first round of the World Cup winner – who should spend a lot of money on moment of transfer.

Bale has publicly stated that he wants to end his career in the Spanish capital, but a transfer to the Premier League would be feasible. The former Tottenham Hotspur club also hoped to see him land.

And Zidane has not ensured that Bale would be at the club next season.

"We will play these 10 games and then we will see," he said.

I will not talk about next season, we have 10 games left. Gareth is an important member of the team, we know what he's done here, especially during the final phase of the Champions League.

"Nobody can take away what he did. We know he can bring a lot to the team and we will rely on him. "

Zidane's comments are all the more worrying from Bale's point of view as compared to the firm commitment he made to Sergio Ramos about his future.

"Sergio is our captain, our leader," he added. "This is his house. He will play a lot more years than me, of course, because he takes care of him too.

"He is a very good professional and fundamental for this team and this club."
