She stated that the path to achieving the sustainable development goal for sanitation, apart from toilet facilities for each home, is for each household to acquire a garbage bin for waste storage.
Highlighting the impact of owning a trash bin nicknamed "the power of the trash can," Ms. Larbi said the garbage can, as a means of storing waste, would help shape the attitudes of Ghanaians, prevent communicable diseases, create jobs for young people, generate income for local bademblies, promote tourism and improve a clean environment, among others.
The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, the Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah said the government, through a sinohydro facility, would build a 1,800-per-day incineration plant for Accra West, a 200-metric-tonne-a-day transfer station for Accra East and a transfer station of 100 metric tons per day for Sekondi-Takoradi.
She suggested that her department had written to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to deploy sanitation guards by July 2019 in the various communities to badist in enforce the laws on sanitation in the country.
The Minister congratulated Zoomlion Ghana Limited on the construction of a new integrated recycling and composting plant (IRECOP) in Korle Bu, Accra, capable of transforming 400 tons of waste into other reusable products, and urged the different households to own bin to efficiently store the waste for later collection.
