The new mechanical street sweepers
The waste management company of Zoomlion Ghana Limited has unveiled ten street sweepers to distribute in selected areas of the country.
Street sweepers will be stationed in regional capitals and deployed along major highways in cities.
The US $ 2 million investment follows President Akufo-Addo's call for the introduction of automated sweepers to speed up the cleaning of busy streets.
Speaking at the unveiling of street sweepers in Accra on Wednesday, Jospong Group executive chairman Joseph Siaw said the machines would reinforce the remarkable work done by the company's cleaning agents.
In addition, he said that the introduction of street sweepers would also help reduce the risk of vehicle rollover by some cleaners along the main ceremonial roads.

Other initiatives
Mr. Siaw mentioned the establishment of temporary storage in a transfer station in Teshie and Achimota, as well as its subsequent transport to the repository site, the construction and management of the sites. disposal, recycling services, transportation from institutions and national properties with its huge fleet of compactors and trucks, the transportation and treatment of liquid waste and the introduction of specialized services in waste treatment , such as e-waste and hospital waste, as some of the services provided by the company over its last 13 years.
He also cited some of the company's ongoing projects such as the construction of a 600-km-a-day sorting and sorting plant in Kumasi, a new compost recycling plant at the Klerp site near Agbogbloshie. in the Greater Accra region, as well as the 1 million distribution project the burden of disease badociated with poor sanitation in Ghana.

Advantages
Mr. Collins Ntim, Deputy Minister of Local Government, said the street sweeper was helping to recover debris, reducing the risk of skidding and likely collision of motor vehicles.
He added: "It can automatically sweep, unload garbage and clean with the help of a recessed water tank …… eliminates stagnant water that on the road surface contributes the development of potholes on our roads ".
Mr. Ntim was of the opinion that the equipment would help to realize the President's vision of making Accra the cleanest city.
He said sweepers should be used for the purposes for which they were purchased, adding that the maintenance culture must also be respected.
He also urged the private sector to continue to innovate and focus on solution-based initiatives to create the jobs and solutions needed for society.

The Deputy Minister also congratulated Zoomlion for its role in preserving the cleanliness of the country.
