Another longtime family business in Pennsylvania is exiting the business and selling to Giant Food Stores.
Musser's Markets announced Aug. Carlisle-based Giant. The stores are located in Quarryville, Columbia and Lebanon.
The last day of business will be Oct. 17.
In a press statement, Musser's cited increased competition, the changing industry, customer buying habits, Giant's loss of their wholesaler (AWI) and online pressure. Musser's called Giant "the best fit for our rentals, customers and our employees."
Musser's has been in business for 94 years and is part of the Family Owned Markets group, which also oversees Yoder's Country Market, John Herr's Village Market, Dairy's Oregon and Martin's Country Market.

"We were honored when the Musser family spoke about their wonderful rentals," said Nicholas Bertram Giant president in a press statement. "The Musser family founded their grocery store in 1925, and we recognize the roots and strong reputation they have in Lancaster and Lebanon counties. We look forward to continuing their legacy of caring for families and the community. "
Giant said the sale is expected to be completed at the end of October. The stores will close for one week for remodeling. In addition, all Musser's sales associates will have the opportunity to interview for jobs at Giant.
Last summer, Giant purchased the Darrenkamp's Market in southern Lancaster County. In May Ferguson & Hassler announced it was selling its Quarryville store to Giant after 103 years in business.
Giant was recently ranked No. 1 by market share in the central market by Food World News, a grocery industry publication.
