Giants accept in principle a contract with RT Mike Remmers

The New York Giants have agreed in principle to a contract with independent offensive striker Mike Remmers.

At least that's what Remmers' agent, Brett Tessler, tweeted.

The Giants were long expected to sign Remmers at a time of the other-season, after bringing him for a physical start earlier in the free period.

Remmers was previously signed by Dave Gettleman when he was CEO of the Carolina Panthers. After leaving the Panthers, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings and played under the command of Pat Shurmur, first coach of the quarter then coordinator of the offensive. With his history with both men and the Giants' tendency towards the players with whom their coaches are already familiar, it seemed inevitable that the Giants would sign Remmers.

Remmers poses a risk to the Giants as a 30-year-old player who has just undergone back surgery and a bad season out of his right guard position. The last time Remmers was in the attack, in 2017, it posted a 2.39% blocking rate, compared to 2.47% of passes blocked by Chad Wheeler in 2018.

Only time will tell if Wheeler has been able to take advantage of this off season to improve enough to keep his job, or if he will lose it to the benefit of Remmers (or perhaps George Asafo-Adjei). No matter who starts the games, the Giants will have to be better at the right position.
