Giants' Daniel Jones will dress against Cowboys: 'He's ready to go'

When the New York Giants open their regular season against the Dallas Cowboys at AT & T Stadium on Sunday, it will be rookie Daniel Jones, not veteran Alex Tanney, who fills the role of QB2 and backs up Eli Manning.

Head coach Pat Shurmur confirmed to reporters on Thursday that Jones will not be following suit, but will be prepared in the event he's called upon.

"He's ready to go," Shurmur said of Jones.

It's unlikely the Giants will need to send a message to the game, but the fact that it will be more active than ever. Shurmur and the organization in the event of an untimely injury to their starter.

It's also possible Shurmur and the Giants find a way to get into the game in the same way they did with Kyle Lauletta a year ago when he entered the game as a gadget wide receiver.

Of course, the approach with Jones may be slightly different in the future, but rather in the context of a game based on circumstance.

If nothing else, Jones is now a single play away from taking over under center.
