Giants defend Evan Engram after fans cheered him OFF the pitch

2020 Pro-Bowl tight end Evan Engram made his first appearance of the season for the New York Giants on Sunday. The error-prone tight end fumbled in a two-minute drill to wrap up the first half and suffered a drop in the third quarter. His misadventures were not well received by the Giants loyalists at MetLife Stadium.

Engram’s mistakes have reminded Giants fans of all the misadventures of last season, which cost the Giants victories. Following the fumble, fans at MetLife Stadium booed every time Engram stepped onto the pitch and applauded him as he left the offense. Engram also received boos when Daniel Jones targeted the 27-year-old.

Reporters asked head coach Joe Judge and other Giants about Engram being booed – here is Judge’s response when asked about the “hostile”Environment towards Engram.

“I love our audience. It’s New York, it’s supposed to be a tough place, right? Isn’t that the nature of where we are at? People demand excellence because that’s where we are, in the biggest market. Isn’t that what people want? », Declared the judge. “So that’s what we have to work on to give them. It’s not their job to show off, and go ahead and give us a pat on the back. It’s our job to keep them entertained and give them something to celebrate. That’s it.”

The judge said he just told Engram to “Hold your head up, keep playing”.

Quarterback Daniel Jones also defended the tight end.

“I don’t think it was deserved,” Jones said. “I think a ball spilled and I could have thrown it better at the end. I am not sure I really understood this. He played hard the entire game and fought back with an injury a few weeks ago to be here. He’s an important player for us and he’s going to be huge for us on the home stretch.

The third-year quarterback has shown leadership and said all it takes to defend a player who can’t seem to get out of his own way.

“I think that he [Engram] knows how much we believe in him, how much I believe in him, ”Jones said. “Like I said, he’s a great playmaker for us. He has played a ton of games in the past and I have no doubt that he will continue to do so at the start of the season. I have a lot of confidence in him personally and I know our team too.

Engram’s mistakes are far too common and his potential is rarely maximized on the pitch. He had the opportunity, once again, to help put the offense on the back with injuries, and instead he caused a turnaround and had little positive impact.

Nonetheless, the Giants continue to defend Engram, which is exactly what they should be doing. However, fans are tired of inefficiency, tired of costly mistakes, and tired of Evan Engram in general. The 2017 first-round pick plays on his fifth-year option and is a free agent at the end of the season.
