Saquon Barkley is injured again.
The New York Giants star running back was sent off against the Cowboys after injuring his ankle in the first quarter. Barkley was coming to a halt after an incomplete pass when he accidentally stepped on the foot of Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis. He then limped off the field and was carried to the locker room. The team briefly declared their return questionable before ruling him out for good.
Devontae Booker is expected to carry the backfield load for the Giants in Barkley’s absence.
It’s another unlucky move for the fourth-year running back. Barkley has spent much of the past year recovering from an ACL tear suffered last September. He was able to return in time for Game 1 of the season and finally looked like himself just a week ago, totaling 126 scrum yards and two touchdowns in a comeback win over the Saints. After winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2018, Barkley was compromised for much of his second season with a sprained ankle that sidelined him for three games.
Barkley only lasted two sets on Sunday, rushing twice for nine yards. The Giants were trailing 3-0 when he left.
