The Giants announced this afternoon they are selecting the reliever contract Jay jackson. Longoria landed on the IL on June 6 with a sprained left shoulder. He is now ineligible to return until 60 days have passed since that initial placement – not today’s transfer date – so he can return in the first week of August. There seems to be a chance he will, as manager Gabe Kapler told reporters (including Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle) that Longoria is doing well in her recovery. It has been an incredible rebounding season for the 35-year-old, reaching 0.280 / 0.376 / 0.516 in 186 home plate appearances.
